We believe the future of working relationships lies in people, in Our People. Therefore, in the manifesto “Our People, Our North”, we highlight six pillars that represent the value of people for Norte Energia: Inspire, Evolve, Value, Support, Celebrate and Care. This program is based on GNH (Gross National Happiness), a UN indicator that measures general well-being, and Positive Psychology, which promotes the development of virtues to improve the health and well-being of individuals and organizations.

Diversity and Inclusion

We value diversity and inclusion as essential to building a fair and productive work environment. In 2023, we received the Women on Board (WOB) seal, granted to organizations with more than two women on their Boards of Directors. At Norte Energia, of the 12 sitting board positions, six are occupied by women, representing a female participation of 50%. This gradual growth began in 2021 and saw significant progress in 2023.

Recognizing the global, national and electricity sector challenge in promoting gender equality, we began our journey in the Global Compact’s SDG Ambition program, focusing on contributing directly to the elimination of inequalities between men and women. In 2023, we recorded growth of 2.4% compared to the previous year, with notable advances in the Leadership categories, with an increase of 11.5%. Professionals and Support Team grew 8.2%.

Despite the progress, we are still on the path to achieving gender parity in all areas and professional categories of the company. Operating in a historically male-dominated sector, we face the challenge of promoting significant transformation. However, we recorded a 37.5% increase in the number of female technicians and specialists in Operations & Maintenance, an area traditionally dominated by men. This progress reinforces our ongoing and progressive commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion.

Professional Training

At Norte Energia, we believe the qualification and performance of our professionals are fundamental to the work and provision of quality services. That’s why we offer a variety of training and development opportunities through dedicated programs. Among these, we highlight the Belo Monte Opportunities Program, which promotes the training of professionals in the areas of Electrotechnics and Mechanics within the Belo Monte HPP. This program not only qualifies the local workforce, but also provides formal employment opportunities for residents of the region, preparing them to enter the job market with competence and specialized skills.

Health and Safety

At Norte Energia, we are committed to the quality of life and safety of our employees and service providers. We have adopted an occupational health and safety management system that covers 100% of employees and third parties, in order to eliminate or reduce dangers and risks in the work environment. Our system is based on legal requirements and uses the PDCA cycle (plan, do, check and act), promoting participation and consultation at all levels of the organization. We also ensure compliance with technical standards and legal requirements through training, education, audits and other integrated actions.

The Cultural Transformation Program in Occupational Health and Safety has proven essential to achieve better results in accident prevention. In addition to complying with current legislation, we recognize the importance of constantly improving our Occupational Health and Safety management in all areas, in order to strengthen teams and promote the company’s sustainable growth.
